Here in WA, we love our public holidays. Especially ones that are here to celebrate the grand jewel of Australia–Western Australia! Sorry Melbourne, there’s a new favourite state 😉
WA Day lands on the first Monday of June every year. This year, West Aussies will need to mark 5th June on their calendars, so that we can all enjoy a comfortable 3-day weekend to spend time with friends and family and bask in the awesomeness of our state.
What is WA Day?
WA Day is a fantastic celebration of all things West Aussie, where we throw caution to the wind and embrace our unique culture, jaw-dropping landscapes, and cheerful larrikin spirit. From the rugged beauty of the Outback to the stunning beaches along the coast, we gather together in true blue fashion to revel in the gloriousness that is WA
With barbies sizzling, cricket matches in full swing, and ice-cold bevvies aplenty, we raise a toast to the wonders of our wild west and its mighty people. Whether you’re a true blue Aussie or a curious visitor, get ready to don your thongs (that’s flip-flops, mate!) and embrace this excuse for a public holiday. Wrap your laughing gear ’round that.
It’s time to celebrate WA
On this glorious WA Day, it’s time to gather your crew, your loved ones, and even some friendly strangers to revel in the wonders of living in this sunny state. Inclusion is the name of the game, whether you’re a true local, a spirited newcomer from afar, or a wandering backpacker still figuring out your coordinates—it doesn’t matter. Today, we all come together to celebrate!
What better way to honour the occasion than by sharing fantastic food and refreshing drinks with our neighbours? We Aussies know a thing or two about culinary delights; it’s practically woven into the fabric of our culture! So, picture this: sinking your teeth into a delectable, meaty pie that oozes with savoury goodness. Or perhaps indulging in a sausage roll that combines flaky pastry and a delectable filling. And let’s not forget about the irresistible allure of a fresh, custard-filled pastry that melts in your mouth. At Pinjarra Bakery, we’ve got you covered with these quintessentially Aussie treats.
Iconic Aussie Delights for WA Day!
First thing’s first, we’ve got to talk about meat pies. The meat pie holds an esteemed place in Aussie culture, embodying the very essence of our culinary heritage. It’s a beloved icon that transcends age, background, and social status, bringing people together through the shared experience of indulging in its deliciousness. Whether enjoyed at the footy match, on the way back from a surf, or on a well deserved lunch break–the meat pie is a delicious companion in the many important moments in our lives
And, we don’t want to brag, but we’ve got quite the selection of meat pies here at Pinjarra Bakery. From classic beef mince, potato beef, vegetarian, curry, vegan and more! All of our pies are baked fresh with our iconic golden, flaky crust and rich and premium filling–the meat pie (in its many forms) is a sensory experience that’s certainly hard to match
Alongside the meat pie, the sausage roll is a tough contender for the Aussie food emblem. Fresh, herbed and mouth watering mince wrapped in a blanket of that golden flaky pastry–simple in concept but sensational in flavour. The sausage roll embodies our love for hearty, no-nonsense food that satisfies both the hunger and the soul. It’s a testament to our laid-back lifestyle and our appreciation for simple pleasures.
Now it’s time for dessert and let’s face it, there’s always room for dessert. Choosing a favourite Aussie dessert is as hard as choosing a favourite child. You’ve got the sweet and wonderful Vanilla Slice, the chocolate sensation Rocky Road as well as the warm and comforting Apple Slice and let’s not forget about the trusty Caramel Slice–there’s so many delicious sweet treats cherished by Aussies.
