Melbourne Cup Day 2020 – catering, parties & frivolity

Melbourne Cup celebrations will look a little bit different this year (especially if you usually make the annual pilgrimage to Flemington), but thankfully here in Perth we can all still get together for a catered lunch and bubbles to watch the race that stops the nation.

The 100,000 crowd we’re used to seeing at Flemington will be locked out to spectators this year. For Perth fashionistas, it means you can finally enter the Myer fashions on the field, now dubbed the virtual Myer Fashions on your Front Lawn competition!

Whether you’ll be in the office or out and about, here are our tips on what do this Melbourne Cup Day in Perth.

Catered office party

Unfortunately we’re not lucky enough to enjoy a public holiday on Melbourne Cup Day, so for the most of us it will be business as usual. With an office full of people gathering together to watch the race, there will certainly be hungry mouths to feed. And you can’t always rely on everyone to bring a plate!

Make it easy for everyone by organising corporate catering with Pinjarra Bakery. Place your order by the 31st of October and our catering crew will get your Melbourne Cup lunch sorted. Choose from a range of catering options including our classic favs, savoury party mix, gourmet baguettes, deluxe tortilla wraps, fresh fruit and desserts. We can also tailor for special dietary requirements, just make sure to let us know when you place your order.

Melbourne Cup at Optus Stadium

Head to the Optus Stadium sports lounge for a day of racing revelry. For $160 per person you can indulge in a decadent brunch and lunch menu that includes Wagyu beef, cajun spiced prawns and lime, garlic and coriander crab. The five hour drinks package includes a list of fine wines and Ginsecco, Gage Roads beer and cider. Aside from the racing, you’ll be entertained throughout the day with DJ Shann on the decks, drag Queen BarbieQ and Friends, competitions and fashion. Last year’s event was sold out, so make sure you get in quick with your tickets.

Celebrate Melbourne Cup rooftop style

Prince Lane is opening its doors at 10.30am for a day of racing under the Perth city skyline. Tickets for this event are $59 per person and includes 2 hours of free flowing wine, bubbles, beer and cider and roaming canapes. Capacity is strictly limited, so like all Melbourne Cup events this one is likely to sell out.

Melbourne Cup Day is always in full swing at Crown with various events on the cards. Book your seat at one of their premium restaurants, dress up for the ultimate celebration at Crown Ballroom, or if you don’t want to commit to a ticketed event, Crown Sports Bar will be broadcasting all the coverage live from inside the casino.

Cup Day at Ascot Racecourse

It’s the quintessential place to soak up all the atmosphere of Melbourne Cup Day in Perth. This year’s event will include live local racing, non-stop entertainment, fashion, food trucks and pop-up bars. General admission tickets are just $35 which can be purchased online or at the gate on the day. Gates open bright and early at 8.30am with the last race kicking off at 5.40pm.

Melbourne Cup at Market Grounds

Celebrate in style at one of Perth’s most lavish cup events. Choose from 4 amazing ticketed racing experiences across 2 levels and 4 bars and enjoy live entertainment and giveaways, fashions on the field, beauty stations, roaming photo booth, Chambord swing, need we say more?

Tickets for most of these events are likely to sell out, so if you haven’t made up your mind yet, don’t wait until it’s too late. And if you’re in the office, don’t forget to get your Pinjarra Bakery catering orders in as early as you can by the 31st so you don’t miss out.
